Care for combination skin

T-zone and cheeks – two needs, one balanced routine

Combination skin is not difficult skin – it is honest. It shows exactly where more and where less is needed. The T-zone shines, the cheeks sometimes feel tight. Those who understand why can target their care instead of treating the whole skin the same way.

Care for combination skin means: regulating excess sebum without drying out, nourishing dry areas without greasiness, and stabilizing the skin's balance in the long term.

Regulate T-Zone

Excess sebum clogs pores and causes shine. Balancing ingredients normalize without drying out.

Nourish cheeks

Dry areas need moisture – but light and non-comedogenic, so the T-zone doesn’t shine.

Maintain balance

A balanced routine prevents one area from throwing another off track.

Between shine and dryness lies the right balance – and a routine that understands both sides.

Sebum Regulation & Pores

Why the T-zone produces more sebum – and what helps

The T-zone – forehead, nose, chin – has a higher density of sebaceous glands than the cheeks. This is not a malfunction but anatomy. It becomes problematic when sebum production gets out of balance: pores appear larger, blemishes form, and shine returns quickly.

Niacinamid regulates sebum production and visibly refines the appearance of pores. Salicylic acid (BHA) is oil-soluble and can penetrate deep into the pores – ideal for occasional targeted use. Zinc reduces inflammatory reactions and helps clarify the skin's appearance.

Important: Do not over-dry. If the skin becomes too dry, it increases sebum production as a protective reaction – which is the opposite of the goal.

Hydration & Barrier

Why cheeks still need moisture

Many combination skin care routines focus on the T-zone – and the cheeks get too little attention. The result: feelings of tightness, early dryness lines, a barrier that doesn’t protect optimally. Yet combination skin needs moisture on the cheeks just like dry skin – only in a different texture.

Hyaluronic acid provides moisture without a greasy film – ideal for all zones at once. Ceramide strengthen the skin barrier, especially on the drier cheek areas. Gel-creams or light emulsions are the right textures: they care for the cheeks without weighing down the T-zone.

A serum with hyaluronic acid applied to the entire face, followed by a light cream, covers both needs in one step.

Textures & Routine

The right routine for combination skin – step by step

The key for combination skin is the order and texture – not necessarily more products. Gentle cleansing morning and evening removes excess sebum and residues without attacking the barrier. Foaming cleansers can be suitable for combination skin as long as they do not strip too much.

Then apply a water-based serum with balancing active ingredients to the entire face. Follow with a light, non-comedogenic cream. Apply sparingly on the T-zone – a bit more generously on the cheeks.

Peels once a week clarify pores and visibly improve the skin’s appearance. Sun protection Daily – preferably as a light fluid – completes the routine. Fewer products, used consistently, are more effective for combination skin than many consecutive layers.
